Tirimoana Bush Walk is a rewarding walk that showcases the diversity of Hurunui’s landscapes. Climbing gently through native bush and wetlands, the track offers three stunning lookouts with sweeping views over Pegasus Bay, dramatic coastal cliffs and Banks Peninsula beyond. The walk leads to a remote beach where Kate Stream meets the sea, with a loop return through regenerating forest and wetlands.

Every Whale Watch tour is a unique experience and the sightings vary. Giant Sperm Whales are the stars of the show and year-round residents. These Sperm Whales share these waters with up to 14 other species of whales and dolphins that migrate past at different times of the year. This unique marine experience also provides an opportunity to sight high-spirited Dusky Dolphins, the rare and endangered Hectors Dolphin, New Zealand Fur Seals and a wide variety of sea birds including the Royal Albatross.

It’s too easy to pass through Kaikōura without stopping to explore. The 42km Kaikōura Trail takes you on a pleasant cycle tour of the district and gives you the chance to explore some of the places you don’t see from the highway. Mt Fyffe and the Seaward Kaikōura Range watch over you for the entire trail, and you will get many glimpses of the ocean as you make your way around.
